The paintbrush has always been with me. Once but a helpful hobby, painting is now an essential part of my life.

It seems that the last two decades, my commitment to painting has deepened. In the past, figurative and realistic painting were my whole world.

Now, I'm far less concerned with the connection to reality and I allow myself a greater degree of freedom in choosing subjects and integrating them into my work. In this way, we can access a richer world of imagery (something that's not always easy to do but is certainly interesting and more challenging).

In the last 20 years of teaching, my students and I applied what I had learned from my own best teachers, including the understanding of how difficult painting is for the beginner. Moreover, how difficult it is for advanced painters to prove themselves as artists.

The subjects of my paintings range from family members, flora, Israeli landscapes (mostly the desert), and even sometimes foreign landscapes.

You can find me out in the landscape with my easel, making the view our own for a few moments.

Enjoy,
Ruti Luz
